MV Agusta is poised to make some interesting motorcycles over the next few years, many of which will be focused on smaller displacement categories, rather than large big displacement machines.
To help us imagine what is ahead, Oberdan Bezzi has a concept for us to ponder upon, dubbed the MV Agusta F1 650 Supersingle.
As the name implies, Bezzi’s sport bike creation features a single-cylinder engine with a 650cc displacement, along with a full fairing design.
This makes the concept a fairly unique one in the motorcycle world, though it plays on a formula that is near-and-dear to this author’s heart.
The Austrians made a similar move with the single-cylinder KTM 690 Duke, and Bezzi sees MV Agusta making an analogous play, possibly with its Chinese partner Loncin.
If made to be lightweight (say, 300 lbs or so), and with reasonable power (~80hp), the model could prove to be a winner with newer riders, and those looking for a competent lightweight track bike – similar to what we are seeing in the middleweight twin category with the Yamaha FZ-07, Suzuki SV650, and upcoming Aprilia RS 660.
With the styling that MV Agusta is famous for, as well as the performance that comes from the top-shelf of the product spectrum, a bike like the MV Agusta F1 concept could be an interesting one for those who aren’t concerned with 200hp pursuits.
If priced competitively against the Aprilia, there could be a winning formula here. Of course, that would imply that MV Agusta is interested in going down the big thumping single-cylinder route, which Bezzi himself points out that the company is not.
Still…it’s fun to dream.
