Here is a recipe to make something we will instantly like, and it requires only three ingredients. Take a modern motorcycle, and put a dustbin fairing on it; take that machine out racing; and put grand prix legend Randy Mamola behind the handlebars.
The result is the IndianxWorkhorse Scout Bobber, and as the name implies, it is a collaboration between Indian Motorcycle and Workhorse Speedshop, as they aim to celebrate 100 years of Indian Scout motorcycles.
The bike – named “Appaloosa” – will race at the upcoming Sultans of Sprint Series, and while we don’t need to repeat saying who will be racing the machine, it is just cool to see Randy Mamola involved with this project.
As you would expect from the name, this custom started life as an Indian Scout Bobber, before its swingarm was hacked off for a longer unit, and its body was built to hold a massive dustbin front fairing.
Other items of note is the modified fuel tank, which has been cut to be more narrow, while retaining the side profile. It now holds just 2.5 liters of fuel, which is about all you need for a quick drag race.
Drag-style controls have been fitted to the Appaloosa, as the Sultan of Sprint series is basically a hooligan-styled drag race. The extra-long swingarm is mated to Öhlins suspension pieces, with STX 36 piggyback rear shock absorbers and Retro 43 forks.
Thanks to an Akrapovič exhaust, racing ECU, Power Commander, direct intake, and a little NOS, this Indian Scout puts down 130hp to the rear wheel. To accommodate that power increase, the belt drive has been swapped for a chain, and a quickshifter has been installed, in order to aid grabbing gears down the course.
Beringer’s 4D brake system rounds out the package, with its dual 230mm discs on each of the two calipers (that’s four discs in total). This helps make the IndianxWorkhorse Appaloosa a very unique motorcycle to look at, and with Randy onboard, we expect it to be quite fast.
“I’ve always been a big fan of Indian Motorcycle and I’m really looking forward to racing this amazing creation,” said Randy Mamola.
“It’s great to be part of this project, especially during the Scout’s 100th anniversary. With the Sultans of Sprint being such a unique series, it’s going to be a lot of fun soaking up the atmosphere, meeting the crowds and putting on a show for them.”
