The EICMA show is underway, in proper, and the first bike we get to see is the 2022 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, which is getting a bevy of updates for next year.
While the majority of the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade remains the same for 2022, the engineers at Big Red have refined the motor further to make more mid-range acceleration.
Peak horsepower remains at 214hp (160 kW) at 14,5000 rpm, but the inline-four engine sees its intake ports, airbox, airbox funnels, and exhaust mid-section all revamped with a mid-range focus.
The final drive sprocket has also gotten a pretty massive change as well – up 3 teeth – and becomes a 43-tooth piece of hardware.
Working on the electronics, Honda has updated its traction control algorithm for better rear-wheel traction management, and the throttle feel has been improved as well.
On the brakes, the Nissin calipers have a new material and surface finish, which is said to increase braking performance, especially as heat gets generated in the braking system.
Meanwhile, the rest of the chassis goes unchanged, with Honda’s “diamond-styled” aluminum frame still holding things together.
Showa suspension is featured on the base model Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, though the bike has an electronic steering damper. The curb weight is 443 lbs (201 kg).
Via the TFT dash, one can change the settings for the throttle map, engine braking, traction control, wheelie control, launch control, and cornering ABS. A smartkey finishes the electronics package.
There is no word yet on US availability and pricing, though we would expect American Honda to continue to shun the pricey base model Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, and instead opt only to bring in its up-spec “SP” variant instead.
What we really want though is the limited edition 30th Anniversary model’s paint job. It looks mint.
