2015 Ducati Multistrada 1200 – A New Face in ADV

Confirming the news we broke last month, the Ducati Multistrada 1200 has been reworked for the 2015 model year, getting a major facelift, along with Ducati’s Testastretta DVT engine with variable valve timing.

The new Ducati Multistrada is also fitted with the Bosch MSC “cornering ABS” package, and thanks to its Intertial Measurement Unit (IMU), the Multistrada can brake more effectively and use cornering LED light (DCL) technology.

The IMU also help reduce wheelies, with the Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) system. Like with the Ducati Traction Control (DTC) there are eight-levels of adjustability to the DWC parameters, helping riders dial-in how high they want the front wheel to loft.

Lastly, the IMU helps improve the function of the Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS). Our last acronym is ECC, for the electronic cruise control system, which has also been added to the 2015 Ducati Multistrada 1200.

Visually there have been a number of changes, namely the shorter “beak” for the air intake, which is now also painted.

The headlight is a full LED unit, while changes have been made to the windscreen movement, as well as to the seat adjustment and dimensions. The frame and subframe have also been subtly changed, with the luggage rack integrated more cleanly into the latter.

On the Multistrada 1200 S, a bluetooth connection has been added, which will connect one’s phone to the bike’s entertainment system, now called the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS). Owners can also download an iPhone/Android application, which will download ride information from the new Multistrada, which can then be shared on Ducati.com and other social networks.

In addition to all this, Ducati has four personalization packages, which add ket aftermarket parts to the 2015 Ducati Multistrada 1200, for specific uses. They are as follows:

  • Touring Pack: heated grips, panniers and center stand
  • Sport Pack: road-legal exhaust (homologated only for EU) Ducati Performance by Termignoni and carbon fibre front mudguard, machined-from-billet aluminium brake and clutch reservoir caps
  • Urban Pack: top case, tank bag with lock and USB hub
  • Enduro Pack: supplementary lights and Ducati Performance components by Touratech: engine protection bars, radiator guard, oil sump guard, bigger kickstand base and off-road footpegs

Putting out 160hp at its peak, and weighing 461 lbs wet at the curb (base model), the 2015 Ducati Multistrada 1200 is a perkier machine than before, but can it compete with the KTM 1190 Adventure, and the still unreleased BMW S1000XR? Only time will tell.
