Reitvergnügen – Day Zero – München

Asphalt & Rubber will have a decidedly European kick the next few days, as David and Tony are in the UK for the British GP, and I will be in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy for a bit of motorcycle touring.

I got this amazing opportunity to join Leod Motorcycle Escapes for their “Alps & Sachsenring Dream” tour, which means for the next five days I’ll be riding in the German/Swiss/Italian Alps, as well as the Italian Dolomites. Once that’s done, we head back into Germany for a two-day track day at Sachsenring. Schwing!

Over the course of the trip, I will be riding the new BMW R1200RS (maybe a little seat time on the S1000XR too) during the touring sections, and throwing a leg over the updated 2015 BMW S1000RR while at Sachsenring. It’s a hard life, right?

This shouldn’t change too much for A&R readers, in terms of getting the latest moto-news in a timely fashion, though I wanted to give a heads-up as articles might come at weirder hours than normal (that’s probably saying something).

In the interest of mild narcissism, I’ll be keeping a daily trip log so you can follow along on the European adventure. For now, there’s not much to report: mostly just tales from 20hrs of flying from Portland to Munich, with the world’s loudest baby next to me.

I’m trying to slam as much water back into my system as possible, and our dinner was comprised of only cuts of meat, sausages, and sauerkraut. Germans only drink carbs, apparently.

Tomorrow we ride the Autobahn south from Munich, begin our first day in the German Alps. It’s our longest day of riding, and I get to meet the new RS. No bad days, eh?
