Personally, I’m not a big fan of the idolatry that seems to follow Hollywood’s golden stars. That being said though, Ryan Reynolds seems like a pretty cool dude, and everything I have heard suggests that he is a true two-wheeled enthusiast.

The star of Van Wilder (and more recently Deadpool) has been spotted practicing his powerslides at SoCal Supermoto, and he has more than a couple motorcycles in his garage, one of which is a custom café racer made by Kott Motorcycles, which is the subject of the video after the jump.

Our favorite Ryan Reynolds story though centers around how the Hollywood star was so enthralled with the Mission R electric motorcycle, that he tried to tempt the San Franciscan startup with a blank cheque offer for one of his very own. Mission Motors declined, which seems like a missed opportunity to me.

Apparently there’s a new Mad Max reboot coming out, and it looks awesome. I have nothing really to say beyond that, and will argue a tenuous link to our usual content on Asphalt & Rubber because motorcycles are one of the best ways to survive the onslaught Imperator Furisoa (Charlize Theron) in George Miller’s post-apocolyptic imagination.

It’s interesting to think about Hollywood’s inclusion of motorcycles in collapse-of-civilization scenarios though. Is it because two-wheeled transportation is the best way to get around when roads no longer exist, much in the same way that Riders for Health uses motorcycles to effectively get medical aid to remote locations?

Or, is it some subliminal message that Hollywood feeds off of (and thus also helps create) that tells us society has truly fallen apart if we are riding motorcycles…much like how a movie character’s act of smoking a cigarette was used to heighten his/hers cool or mysterious persona?

I don’t know the answer to those question, but it keeps me up at night. I am the Nightrider. I’m a fuel injected suicide machine. I am the rocker, I am the roller, I am the out-of-controller!

It’s not our cup of tea, but we can see how hardcore cinephiles can get easily worked up about behind the scenes photos of movies that are still in production — it’s likely not too dissimilar from how we feel when we catch a glimpse of an upcoming motorcycle before its release. It’s not our thing, but we can understand it.

What is a lot easier to understand though is when an actual motorcycle gets caught by these Hollywood spy cameras, as is the case here. On the set of the next Avengers movie, the eagles eyes of the linkbaity Daily Mail caught photos of what is clearly an electric Harley-Davidson motorcycle — piquing our interest, of course.
