It looks like the rumors were true about Playboy taking up ad space on Randy DePuniet’s LCR Honda. Lucio Cecchinello has confirmed that the sponsorship deal with Playboy has gone through, and we have the pictures to prove it. If you missed the paint job this weekend at Jerez, get ready to see it again at the Spanish and Japanese GP’s. Warning, the picture gallery while tasteful, is Not Safe For Work (NSFW).
Speaking about the sultry new sponsor, Cecchinello said:
“We have been in touch with Playboy US for a long time and, taking advantage of the opportunity given by the presence of some American top executives part of Hugh Hefner entourage during his latest visit to Europe, we have defined the guidelines of a project allowing us to start negotiations with some of this evergreen brand’s global licensees. Playboy Italy has positively assessed the project and confirmed the sponsorship for the early stage of the season (MotoGP Championship Launch during the tests in Jerez de la Frontera, GP in Japan and Spain as Title Sponsor, GP in Qatar…unfortunately, we all know the kind of problems for that) linking it to their activities in the view of relaunching the magazine in Italy. Currently, there are further ongoing negotiations with licensees in more countries, who have been presented with our “projects by event” concept, which does not imply any millionaire investments”.
Although the sponsorship deal is only for the first few races – it was timed to help with the relaunch of the Italian magazine, though attempts to include the season opener at Qatar failed because of advertising restrictions in that country – Cecchinello is talking to other editions of Playboy looking for similar deals. If it all pans out as the team hopes, then the Playboy logo could appear at more races during the year.
The deal will also see the LCR Honda team and Randy de Puniet in a special MotoGP spread in the Italian edition of Playboy magazine. The magazine is being relaunched in Italy, and the MotoGP link up is part of the magazine’s push to promote itself in the Italian market. The edition features a number of tasteful pictures of a semi-naked Randy de Puniet, joined by equally semi-naked Playgirls.
Finally LCR Honda has been able to find some who will take their shirt off besides Randy, and MotoGP fans are thankful for that.
