Protecting Your Junk: Racer Profile D3O Under Shorts

I was trying to think before writing this story, when was it we last had a good conversation about underwear on Asphalt & Rubber? Maybe never?

The often ignored subject is a fairly important one for the die-hard rider, as a good base layer can provide extra insulation on a cold day, wick away sweat on hot ride, and provide protection when the worst happens.

Personally, I’m a big fan of compression shorts under my motorcycle pants, especially bicycle shorts, as the Lycra makes it easy to get out of hot leathers (ask any track rider), and the bicycle padding ads a little extra to my spartan motorcycle seat. So when I saw Racer’s Profile D3O under shorts, I was intrigued.

The Racer Profile D3O under shorts are basically Lycra compression shorts, with contoured with the highly regarded D3O padding.

The killer app is that the D3O is placed to cover the thigh/hip area, as well as the tailbone — two places where I don’t have terrible amount of padding on my various tracks suits, and virtually no protection on my enduro pants.

Silicone grips make it easy to hold in place socks (who has socks that are that long??!) and jerseys, and of course there’s a fly for when nature calls (this might be easier for men).

Sizes are medium to extra-large, you can get them in any color as long as its black, and they’ll set you back $90 — or about the same as a set of Pearl Izumis.

These might require a long-term test on our part…
